In what may seem a bit of an unorthodox move, we’re lowering the prices on our Standards line. This is for a number of reasons, but paramount is this—we’ve been reminded that our pricing ought to reflect our business values which naturally stream from our personal values. Treating our customers as we would like to be treated is key to us, and how we price our products is no exception to this mantra. We want to be able to step back, look at our products, and feel they’re a good value for the money. We feel this price adjustment better aligns with that sentiment, although other factors have also been at play in directing this decision. Those we may get into into more detail at a later time on the Penwell Co. blog, but for the purpose of this note we’ll keep it succinct.
Now, it’s easy to say we value our customers and are making these decisions because we care about them, but it means little if we don’t back it up with some actions of our own. We’re not comfortable that our kind and loyal customers paid more for a product as we launched than they’d pay now. It’s rather the opposite of the ever popular Kickstarter launch, and one we’re not comfortable taking part in. With that said, we’d like to offer to all of our previous customers a coupon code worth $25 for a future purchase at PenwellCo.com. If you’ve made a purchase within the last 30 days we’ll give you the option of a refund for the difference between the old and new price (Fountain Pen Day purchases will be figured from the discounted price). This code is available solely to returning customers who purchased a Penwell in the Standards line (walnut, aluminum, and brass) and can only be used once. You’ll have a bit more than a year to redeem it as it expires December 31, 2018. Our plans within this timeframe include some new materials and finishes, so if nothing quite appeals to you now, stay tuned to see what we’re able to make available in the upcoming months. We’re a small business in a small town in a small state. The vast majority of costs incurred in manufacturing Penwells stays within a 30 mile radius of where we work and live. We patronize our local businesses and have developed great working relationships with them. Consider this price reduction, explanation, and compensatory action our way of working to develop great working relationships with our customers in turn.
